Things of Quality Have No Fear of Time

This week we explore time and tarot.

Things of Quality Have No Fear of Time

Some things are worth the wait

This week a friend on Instagram reminded me that I often use this quote. That’s because it makes so much sense to me, on so many levels.

I whisper it to myself when I am running woefully behind on a self-imposed writing deadline. I say it again to myself when I look in the mirror and see the signs of age that seem to emerge almost daily. I say it yet again to justify spending a bit of money on something that is built to last, rather than something cheaper and disposable. I say it to my clients who are impatiently waiting for a good thing that I see coming to them – a new relationship, a new job, or healing of body, mind and spirit.

None can escape the passage of time, and so often we worry that we have missed the boat, that we are running out of time, that we aren’t moving quickly enough. It’s true that time will wait for none of us, and some things do have an expiration date. Yet, there is a blessing that happens when we can gracefully accept that good things are worth the wait and that doing good work is worth the extra time.

Time adds value to some things. We see this with cheese, wine, and lovely antiques. When we allow ourselves to have the perspective that time adds value to our lives, rather than slowly stealing our lives away, our lives become much richer.

Too Late Tarot Reading

Sometimes we wonder if we have let too much time pass. Is it too late to start a business, or go back to school, or fall in love?

I often think that people don’t do what they want to do because the think it’s too late, when it’s really not.

It’s a good practice to check in with tarot, either by reading for yourself or getting a reading with a talented professional, to see if you still have time to make something happen.

If you want to read for yourself, simply shuffle and ask a question like, “Can I make this happen?”

When I have done this for others, I have sometimes been surprised by the answers I’ve received. I have seen that middle-aged people could change their careers, and then I have watched them actually do it successfully. I’ve seen older women become parents. I’ve seen senior citizens finally find the love of their lives.

Sometimes we try to talk ourselves out of trying for something because we believe our time has passed. If we are indeed too late, tarot may suggest something else for us to do.

But sometimes, tarot will encourage us to go for it. In my experience, when that happens, the possibilities for success are much better than we may have thought.

The Week in Review

This week I started something new – Three-card tarot readings on Facebook Live, archived on my YouTube channel. Check out my Three Card Spread in honor of Star Wars Day, and three cards for the week of May 6-12.

For my tarot-reading friends I shared a blogpost about doing readings for yes or no questions.

From Around the Web

Amy Zerner and Monty Farber, our favorite metaphysical couple and creators of the Enchanted Tarot, are offering an inexpensive course called 21 Ways to Tell Your Future.

Here is a wise article on grief. If you, or someone you know, is in a grieving process, you have to read this!

Many of you know how much I love John Mayer. Turns out he has been blogging about candles!

AdobeStock_91104504-2500x1667.jpg

Cards for Your Consideration

This week, I would like you to consider five cards that can often speak of time. The first two are from the Major Arcana. The Hermit, Major Arcana 9, is known as ‘Father Time’. The lantern he carries was originally an hourglass. It became a lantern at a time when candles were used as timekeepers. Therefore, he now carries the light of wisdom that is also a clock. The message here is of the wisdom that is acquired over time, and that it is often wise to be patient.

Three common keywords for Major Arcana 14, Temperance, are art, alchemy and time. Temperance tells us that time is one of the ingredients needed to create the recipe for the perfect blend, the right solution and the correct balance in life.

The next two cards are both Knights, one fast, one slow. The Knight of Pentacles is the slowest of the Knights. He reminds us to take our time and tells us that things may happen slowly. The Knight of Swords is the quickest of the Knights and may tell us that something is coming quickly, or that we need to act with all speed.

Our final card is the Eight of Wands, which is all about fast action. It heralds quick change and fast news. The Eight of Wands advises that you be swift.

Predicting time with tarot can be challenging. These five cards can help us understand our relationship with time. These cards can often let us know whether things will happen quickly, or whether we will be practicing patience as we wait for what comes next.

Embrace the Journey

My trip northeast reminded me that life is a journey, not a desitination.

A last-minute opportunity allowed me to return to Connecticut for a couple of weeks over the Easter holiday. Of course, I used this time to my best advantage. I visited with old friends, made new friends and gave lots and lots of tarot readings throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

While in the Northeast, I experienced beautiful spring weather, snow, ice and unseasonable cold. I was surprised at how quickly I was able to revert to winter survival mode, and how easily I remembered the tricks for driving on ice.

The best part of returning to the Northeast is the opportunity to see, face-to-face, some of the people who have been with me since I began as a tarot reader in Putnam, CT in the early 1990s.

I’m so grateful to those people who worked with me then, and continue to work with me now.

My travels also made me think of the metaphoric journey of life. This metaphor, so beautifully woven into tarot, is a constant call to mindfulness.

When we understand that life is a journey and not a destination, our thinking is fundamentally changed.

We can view the twists and turns of our journey, not as mistakes, but simply as experiences along the road.

We can be grateful for every experience, wanted or unwanted, because each experience is part of the journey that makes us who we are.

We can worry less about goals and results, and focus more on being present for each unique experience.

The Journey of Tarot

Actress and tarot author Eden Gray (1901-1999) was the first to write about tarot as “The Path of the Fool”. In this model of tarot understanding, we see the Fool as the star of the story told by tarot. We see the other seventy-seven cards as the characters, themes, lessons and experiences the Fool encounters along the way.

In this way, we are all the Fool, stepping off the cliff into the unknown. The tarot cards contain the range of possibilities available to us.

One of the best ways to explore tarot, and to use tarot to explore your personal journey, is to keep a tarot journal.

Record your thoughts about the cards, your readings and your observations. Pull a card every day and write about it. Refer back to see how the card presented itself in your day.

Sometimes, a tarot reading can reference the journey of life. Of course, the Fool can appear to remind us that life is a journey, and that we are the star of our own epic adventure story.

The Six of Cups can indicate a return to a childhood home.

The Ten of Pentacles can speak of legacy and ancestry.

The Six of Swords, the Eight of Cups and all the Knights can speak of travel, both literally and metaphorically. Likewise, the Chariot, who reminds you to be the hero of your own journey.

Tarot tells the stories of our journey through its archetypes, in divination, and in our ability to use the cards to manifest our right pathways.

Song of the Week

Our song this week is Tom Cochrane’s “Life is a Highway”.

Numerology with Zuri

Number Five

Hello Bright Sparks!

Four had you stuck at the office or with your head buried in a mountain of to-do lists where the only way out was to be disciplined and focused on each and every minute detail. You’ve made momentum on your tasks, built solid foundations and worked your tail off to prove your dedication and talents to those that matter.

But just as you’re teetering on the edge of potential burnt out, the 5 swings his head into your cubicle and lets you know that the hard work and perseverance have earned you some vacation time, so get ready to ride the freedom wave of the 5 and see what new adventures await! As a 5, you’re the socialite, the life of the party, the bohemian on a quest for variety and new experiences.

Maybe you may want to take off after graduation and travel the world. Perhaps you channel that thirst for adventure as a flight attendant, photographer or as a journalist. Your spirit is unrestrained, wanting to taste and feel everything. It definitely puts you in the same charismatic stratosphere as the rockstars and creative movers and shakers that make our world sparkle a little brighter. However you have to be careful not to dip your toes in too many pools or over-indulge in the senses to the point of excess because one of the lessons of the 5 is to know your limits and learn how to create balance.

The shadow side of the 5 can sometimes show up as the Peter Pan syndrome when dating a guy with heavy 5 energy in his chart or as being jack of all trades and master of none when the person is not living to their full potential.

Bringing in some of that 4 vibration can help ground that 5 and keep him/her taking their great ideas and openness to try new things and channel it into a more constructive direction.

Because truly, the 5 can achieve great things, when they put their mind to it. They have the confidence to take risks that pay off, and adapt to the curve balls of life.

When you see a group of 5’s in a reading, you know that change is in the air and the cards are going to give you clues on how to adapt and be flexible to move through those challenges from a new perspective. Some questions + thoughts to ponder when you find the 5 vibration stalking your dreams or outer world are: How can you create more flexibility in a situation? What needs to change and shift? Am I taking calculated risks? How can I step outside of my comfort zone and promote myself or a project more successfully?

This week’s vibrational takeaway in working with the 5 is to think about new ways to break through your self imposed glass ceilings and try something new. Take chances. Explore and be more adventurous. Network and promote your ideas with confidence. And most importantly, soak in new experiences through each of your 5 senses. It’s not a time to play small. It’s pushing you to embrace change and be flexible as things ebb and flow.

To showering your world with excitement!

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Two of Pentacles

Your one-card reading this week is the Two of Pentacles.

You may find yourself juggling your finances to make ends meet. You may find yourself working more than one job, or managing multiple responsibilities.

The Two of Pentacles suggests that the resources of time and money may be limited for a while. However, you have the ability to make everything work for as long as you need to.

The Two of Pentacles affirms the difficulty of meeting life’s daily needs. The Two of Pentacles also affirms your ability to meet those needs, and, ultimately, to succeed.

Tarot by Christiana

  Newsletter 1/9/2013

Just Breathe

Many people say they can't meditate. Most of those same people say they can't relax. We all suffer from anxiety and stress. Most of us worry too much. The key to relaxation and stress relief, and the key to meditation, is simple.

Just breathe.

Conscious breathing is the key to meditation, psychic development, manifestation, visualization and magick. It is interesting that the autonomic process of breathing becomes something powerful when done consciously and with intent.

Whether you want to reduce stress, improve your health or increase your salary the first step is the same. Simply learn to breathe as slowly and fully as you can. Inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth. If you focus only on the breath even for just a few moments your entire energy will change.

If you want to meditate but find you "can't sit still," don't worry. Meditation can happen while you are exercising, drumming, dancing or stringing beads. Anything that takes you "into the zone" is a form of meditation. A constant rhythm that matches the rhythm of your breath is all you need to take you to the place where you can control your energy, rejuvenate your mind, focus your intuition and visualize your best future. When you hold a vision of the future your desire your breath becomes the energy that helps make it happen.

Just breathe.

What's Your Favorite Card?

Here's a quick exercise you can do with tarot or any other deck of oracle cards.

Look through the deck and choose the one card that seems most appealing to you at this moment.  Look at the image and think about the card's meaning.  If you like, read interpretations for the card.

Now, think about the card this way. This card describes some of your best qualities. Think about how the card relates to you specifically. What do you have in common with the energy of this card? What does this card tell you about yourself at the present moment?

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card Reading for the week is the Wheel of Fortune. This is the card of luck, fate and karma.

This card reminds us that everything has a time. The wheel is always spinning. If things didn't go your way today you should just relax. The wheel will turn again and tomorrow you may be on top of the world. On the other hand, if you are on top of the world today you should enjoy it. When the wheel turns again your fortunes may change.

We are all subject to the cycles of nature. We must control what we can control and surrender the rest to the Universe.

When it's time to take a chance do it boldly. Sometimes the wheel turns in your favor. When someone has wronged you don't worry. What goes around comes around. The wheel of karma is unavoidable.
