Tarot Topics 9/3/2014: Many Paths

paths-social.jpg

Many Paths

There are many ways to find healing, and many paths to enlightenment. Our planet is rich in variety.

We are lucky to live in a time when we can experience the colors, flavors and philosophies of many cultures, rather than only what is available in our own village.

Each of us has the opportunity to find the modalities and practices that resonate best.  Each of us can find the teachers and the books, the classes and the experiences, that will help us most.

There is no limit to what we can learn and do, as long as we are open to the possibilities.

There are many teachers, and many paths on the journey through life. Be open to variety, and be willing to explore new ideas!

Dream Your Direction!

If you are looking for a new path, or a new direction, you can find guidance in your dreams!

Before you go to sleep, ask for guidance. Be specific about the area of your life where you are seeking something new. Are you looking for a new career path, a new healing path, a new creative path, or a new spiritual path?

You can enhance your dreams by putting a bit of lavender oil on your pillow case. You can also use tarot to help, by placing the Two of Wands under your pillow, or under your bed, while you sleep.

The Two of Wands holds the energy of manifestation. As the “Lord of Dominion,” the card will help your Higher Self understand that you have many paths, and possibilities in front of you.

Before you go to sleep, visualize a weathervane spinning as you ask for guidance and direction.

When you awaken, write down everything you can remember from your dreams. Don’t think about it too much, just write it all down. Then you can look for themes, symbols and images that can give you the sense of direction you need to help you choose your path.

The Week in Review

Just as I was getting ready for my trip to Connecticut, Amanda Lee posted a wonderful seasonal piece on our Tarot Topics Community Blog. If you didn’t get to see it last month, please make sure you check out her post.

This week, also on the Community Blog, I posted a piece about the way that tarot evolves.

On my Dark Forest blog, I gave some advice to my fellow solopreneurs. Don’t forget to give yourself a promotion!

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I posted a rant about stereotyping. Stereotypes exist for a reason, but promoting stereotypes often hurts more than it helps!

From Around the Web

Rather than sharing particular blog posts this week, I thought I would share some blogs from individuals I’ve discovered recently that I like in general. I hope you’ll like them, too!

Archaic Honey is about “finding magic and sweetness while living on the fringe.”

Nadine Tarot Reiki offers simple wisdom from a one-of-a-kind personality.

Willow Merrymoon has some great tarot poetry, quizzes, podcasts and other fun stuff.

A Tarot Spread for Openness to New Paths

Sometimes we get stuck in a rut. We aren’t happy with the same old thing, but we are not comfortable trying something new. It is this unwillingness to push out of our comfort zone that keeps us stuck.

Use this tarot spread to help you open to new paths when you need them. Use it when you are considering a new path, or when you are feeling stuck and unsure of what to do next.

Card one: What new paths are available to me?

Card two: What will I have to give up to take a new path?

Card three: What is the source of my resistance to a new path?

Card four: What do I need to do to begin my new path?

Card five: Where will this new path take me?

What’s Up at the Psychic Café?

On Sunday, August 31, we celebrated the tarot Fool with our “Night of 1000 Fools.” I asked tarot artists, writers and readers to talk about the tarot Fool, possible interpretations for the Fool, and the lessons they learned from the Fool.

On Sunday, September 7th, we’ll continue conversing with tarot artists when we enjoy an encore presentation of my interview with Jordan Hoggard of “Tarot from the Land of Mystereun.”

Christiana’s Psychic Café is my weekly webcast. It airs on the Para Encounters Network, each Sunday at 9 pm Eastern.

Learning Tarot: Queen of Cups

The Queen of Cups will often represent an adult woman in a tarot reading. The Queen of Cups describes someone who is kind, emotional, dreamy, poetic, sensitive, romantic and loving. She may also be intuitive and empathic.

The Queen of Cups may also appear to instruct you to nurture your emotions, or to pay attention to the emotions of others.

This card may predict a female love interest, or may indicate a woman’s romantic feelings for someone special.

The Queen of Cups may encourage you to behave in a kind and loving way, even if you are feeling differently.

Sometimes, the Queen of Cups is a message of love from a female friend or family member in spirit.

The Queen of Cups could instruct you to develop your intuition, and be aware of your sensitivities. Sometimes this card will indicate a person who is highly sensitive on many levels.

Next week, we will complete our journey through the suit of Cups when we meet the King!

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the Four of Pentacles.

This week, pay attention to your finances. Now is the time to spend money wisely, and to save money if you can.

You also need to pay attention to the way you take care of yourself.

Are you exercising? Are you eating well? Are you nurturing yourself?

Sometimes, the Four of Pentacles can talk about selfishness.

Is there someone around you who is acting in a selfish way? Are you acting selfishly at this time?

The Four of Pentacles tells you that it is time to examine your resources and your attitudes about resources.

This week, focus on finding a balance between taking care of yourself, and taking care of others.

Lessons

Although I have not been a formal student in many years, the end of August always makes me think of going back to school. As the days grow shorter and the weather cools, I want to buy pens and notebooks.

This seasonal focus on learning is probably a good thing. Although most of us don’t spend a lot of time in classrooms, we are always learning. Life teaches us things every day. Sometimes the lessons are easy, and sometimes we learn the hard way.

Learning keeps us sharp, and keeps us engaged in life. As long as we live, there will always be more to learn.

Now, more than ever, there are opportunities for us to learn all kinds of things. There are in-person and online classes available in every art form, spiritual practice, hobby and sport.

Why not use the back-to-school energy of the end of August to learn something new?

What Do the Pages Learn?

In tarot, the four Pages are students. They may represent the need to learn something, the act of learning something, or a person who is learning something.

What the Pages learn can be determined by the element of their suit.

The watery Cups Page learns about love and expressing emotion.

The earthy Pentacles Page learns about work, money and practical matters.

The airy Swords Page learns about truth, basic knowledge, communication and technology.

The fiery Wands Page learns about creativity, sports and performance arts.

You can perform a reading with just these four cards. Shuffle them, and pick one at random to tell you what type of thing you should next tackle learning!

Five Major Arcana Cards About Learning

There are many cards in the tarot deck that can refer to learning something new. Of course, each card has a lesson to teach us, as well.

Here are five Major Arcana cards that I see as referencing school, learning and study. It’s interesting to see the different types of learning in the individual cards, and see how they compare and contrast.

As you look at them, think about which types of learning are most natural for you.

The Fool

The Fool is on an expedition. He learns through curiosity, experience and observation. His study is not focused, he will learn whatever comes into his field of vision.

The Magician

In a reading, the Magician can indicate attendance at a formal school. The Magician learns through a focused study of his tools, his skills and his abilities.

The High Priestess

The High Priestess holds a book of wisdom, but she also has the ability to look within the subconscious mind, and discover the secrets within. The High Priestess has inner knowledge and wisdom.

The Hierophant

The Hierophant is the keeper of doctrine, tradition, dogma and rules. His teachings are precise and advanced. With focused study of a traditional body of knowledge, the Hierophant becomes an authority in his field.

The Hermit

It could be said that the wisdom of the Hermit combines all the learning techniques of the previously mentioned cards. He has made a journey, he has developed his skills, he has looked within, and he can access a body of knowledge. The Hermit now holds the lamp of wisdom to light the way for others.

This coming Sunday, August 31, we will feature one of my favorite episodes of Christiana’s Psychic Café, our “Night of 1000 Fools.”

The entire show is about the tarot Fool, and features interviews and art from some of tarot’s most interesting voices, including Val Sherrill, Lisa De St. Croix and Theresa Pridemore.

Learning Tarot: Knight of Cups

Like the Pages, the Knights can represent young people. Knights can also represent people of any age who are in pursuit of something.

The Knight of Cups is in pursuit of love. The Knight of Cups is the traditional card of the suitor. In a single lady’s reading, the Knight of Cups indicates an impending romance, or a secret admirer.

When the Knight of Cups describes an individual, it may be a very romantic person, or a person interested in matters of love.

The Knight of Cups might indicate a teenager who is very interested in dating.

The Knight of Cups may appear in a reading to encourage the querent to pursue a relationship, or to act in a more loving way in a current relationship.

The Knight of Cups can also predict travel; specifically, a romantic get-away.

The Knight of Cups reminds us to act with love as our priority.

Next week we will meet the Queen of Cups.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card reading this week is the World.

This week, pay attention to the big picture, rather than getting caught up in trivial details.

Now is a great time to think about your long-term goals, and what you are doing to achieve them.

The World reminds you that your potential is only as great as you believe it to be.

The World tells you that your world is in your hands. You have the power to create the life you want.

The World card reminds you that everything is interconnected. Try to pay attention to the ripple effect that comes from each thing you do, and do each thing with a clear intention.

This week, focus on completing projects. Remember that, in a very real way, the world is yours, to do with what you will.

Meditation

Meditation is the key to relaxation, well-being, manifestation and psychic development.

So many people are convinced that they “can’t meditate.” Usually this is because they don’t realize how many ways there are to meditate.

Every culture and tradition teaches some meditative practice, and your meditative practice can be as unique as you are.

You can meditate while walking, dancing or drumming. You can meditate in water, or with music. The important thing is to stay focused on your conscious breathe.

If you don’t have a meditative practice, try to find one that works for you. Each of us needs a way to clear, ground and center.

When we meditate, we develop focus, self-control, intuition and connection with our guidance.

Meditation for Psychic Development

I know a professional psychic who says that all psychic work comes down to four basics; sleep, meditation, exercise and diet.

I think it makes sense that the basics of good health support our psychic development.

If you want to be more intuitive, or more able to listen to your guidance, meditation can help.

When you meditate, focus on your breathing. As in yoga, and other holistic practices, the breath is very important.

Don’t worry about “emptying your mind.” Simply breathe, and let your mind wander. What do you think about when you are not controlling your thoughts?

After your meditation, write down the thoughts that came to you, and spend some time reflecting on them.

Meditation gives more energy than it takes, and can be done in very little time.

Eventually, you will begin to hear your guidance, and feel in tune with your higher consciousness.

The Week in Review

This week on my Tarot Topics Community Blog I wrote a piece about a very interesting Major Arcana card, the Lovers. Believe it or not, the Lovers is a card of logic! Read the post and find out why.

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I wrote about a particular tarot experience. Read “Four Suits, a New Relationship and a Tarot Journal.”

On my Dark Forest Blog, here is the second in a three-part series about marketing mistakes. If you have a healing practice, this series is for you!

From Around the Web

The tarot world is always growing and changing. There are new decks, new traditions, and new ways of working with the cards. Here are three exciting, original products for use with your tarot decks. Each is designed to expand your tarot work and play.

From Tierney Sadler, here is “The Deck of 1000 Spreads.”

A similar concept, but different creation, is “Dynamic Spreads Deck.”

Finally, have you played “The Tarot Game?”

Three Ways to Meditate with a Tarot Card

Many tarot books and teachers will tell you to meditate with you cards, or with a particular card. But how is that done?

There are a few ways many people use to meditate with tarot. You may find a new way, and that’s great, too. We are constantly expanding the ways we work with tarot.

1.  Problem-Solving Tarot Meditation

If there is a particular problem you need to solve, find the card that, to you, represents that problem. In meditation, see yourself as the character in the card, and find a way to solve the problem presented in the card.

As you lay down your Ten of Wands burden, or remove your Eight of Swords blindfold, you will find the power and support to solve your problem in life.

2.  Wisdom-Seeking Tarot Meditation

If you are seeking a particular sort of wisdom or knowledge, find the card that represents that wisdom to you. In meditation, enter the card and have a conversation with the card character. You will be surprised at the wisdom you receive.

3.  Card Study Tarot Meditation

Chose a card each day, or each time you study. Choose the card at random, or do each card in order. Simply look at the card, read about it, and think about it.

Then, in meditation, keep the card in your vision and ask it “What do you mean to me?”

Try these three tarot meditation techniques, and see what other techniques you can develop to let tarot and meditation enhance each other.

What’s Up at the Psychic Café?

While I am traveling in August I am featuring some of my favorite episodes of Christiana’s Psychic Café.  This past Sunday we revisited my conversation with Jeanne Fiorini. Jeanne is a gifted tarotist with a grounded perspective. She’s also a stand-up comedian!

Coming up on Sunday, August 24th we will replay my conversation with author, Egyptologist and newspaperman Kingsley Guy, author of the wonderful novel, “Queen of the Heavens.”

Learning Tarot: Page of Cups

In tarot, Pages can represent children, young people, students and communicators. It is possible that, when a Page appears in a tarot reading, the Page is a reference to an actual young person in the querent’s life.

The Page of Cups could be a young person with a strong “Water” energy. That is, the Page of Cups can be a gentle, sensitive young person, with a loving heart and a kind disposition.

The Page of Cups can also be a person of any age who is engaged in learning something new, or who is learning to communicate their heart.

Sometimes the Page of Cups appears in a reading as a message of love from one who is passed.

The Page of Cups could also represent a romantic interest, especially in younger people.

Pages, and Court cards in general, are not always specific people. The Page of Cups can indicate the need to speak your heart; to express your emotions. The Page of Cups could direct you to temper your communication with love.

The Page of Cups can also predict the arrival of a love letter.

Next week we will continue our journey through the Cups court, when we meet the Knight of Cups.

This week, take the time to connect with nature. Take a walk in the woods, work in the garden, or visit the beach. The Ace of Pentacles reminds you to stay grounded, and to appreciate the Earth.

The Ace of Pentacles may predict a great new career opportunity, or even an unexpected windfall of cash.

If you are interested in starting a business, building a house or growing your family, the Ace of Pentacles is an auspicious sign of success for you!

Be open to new possibilities for growth and new ways of taking better care of yourself this week.

The Element of Fire

In metaphysics, and in esoteric systems such as tarot and astrology, we see the element of Fire as the element of passion, creativity, spirituality and motivation. The Fire energy is what burns within us.

We can connect with fire in meditation, or by spending time with a campfire or a candle.

When we nurture the energy of Fire in our lives, we allow ourselves to live more passionately; to be more engaged in life. We are more able to feel our connection to Spirit, and to access our own creative energy.

Fire is the chi life force, the spark of divinity within us, our inspiration, and our motivation.

How do you nurture fire in your life?

[ In This Issue ]

The Element of Fire in Tarot: Inspiration!

In tarot, the suit of Wands is related to the element of Fire. In these cards we see action, motivation, creativity and defense of the things about which we are passionate.

The Major Arcana cards associated with Fire are the Emperor, Strength, the Wheel of Fortune, Temperance, the Tower, the Sun and Judgement.

We can use these tarot images to ignite our inspiration and fuel our creativity.

Look through the Fire tarot cards and think about the images in terms of your own creative struggles and triumphs. What stories do you see in these cards? How do these images inspire you?

From just these Fire cards, pull one card at random to answer this question.

“How can I best nurture inspiration in my life?”

The Week in Review

This week, on my Dark Forest blog, I posted the first of a three-week series, about marketing mistakes made by healers. If you are a tarot reader, massage therapist or have another sort of healing practice, this series is for you!

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I wrote about suffering. So many times, when we are suffering, we feel that we have no purpose, or that our life has no purpose. It’s clear to me, though, that there is always a purpose. Read “The Purpose of Suffering” and find out what it is!

On my Tarot Topics Community Blog I shared some information for tarot students about situational spreads.

From Around the Web

From Lua Tarot, a post about using your tarot cards to help you in your tarot business. That is a concept I developed in my 2010 book “Fortune Stellar.” I am glad to see it working for other tarotists.

From Psychology Today, here is a great post about being in the present.

From Psychic Revelation, here is a wealth of tarot spreads to try.

The Power of Fire Tarot Spread

Try this three-card spread to see how strong the fire energy is within you. It is especially favorable when Fire cards appear in this spread. Interpret challenging cards to help you understand what you could do to better nurture Fire in your life.

Card one:  What is the strength of my will and motivation?

Card two:  What is the strength of my creative energy?

Card three:  What is the strength of my overall vitality?

Learning Tarot: Ten of Cups

The Ten of Cups is often called “The Happy Family.” Typically, this card predicts and describes a happy marriage, a happy home, children, love and romance. Some people call this the “They all lived happily ever after” card.

Key words for the Ten of Cups are happiness, romance, love and family.

The Ten of Cups can describe a happy relationship, or predict a happy relationship in the future. The Ten of Cups could suggest that a couple will soon announce an engagement, have a child or buy a home. The Ten of Cups could describe the desire for a happy outcome.

The Ten of Cups is the final card in the numbered pips of the suit of Cups. With this card we complete a journey through the element of Water, where we learn about our feelings, our relationships and our emotions.

Next week we will begin our exploration of the Cups Court, with the Page of Cups.
