The Language of Dreams

Our dreams contain a great deal of wisdom that can help us heal, help us plan, and help us solve problems.

Mystical door in the clouds

The word ‘dream’ can have two different meanings either as a noun or a verb. A dream can be what happens in our mind when we sleep. A dream can also be a cherished aspiration.

The dreams I want to discuss are the ones that happen when we sleep.

Humans spend a third of their lives asleep. it makes sense that what happens in our sleep has great value, not just for our bodies, but for the mind and spirit.

We have different types of dreams. Some are pleasant, and some can be unpleasant. Some dreams may obviously be created by something we are experiencing physically. Some dreams seem to be a way of processing the day’s events. Some dreams are recurring and may hold a key to healing long-term trauma, worries, or upsets. Some dreams offer solutions to problems. Some dreams are predictive. Some dreams may include communication from loved ones in spirit.

People who do not remember their dreams can try techniques to allow their dreams into their waking memory. Sometimes this can be as simple as setting that intention before going to sleep.

Setting an intention for your dreams can be a helpful technique in general. If you have a particular problem, you might set your intention to dream your solution. If you want a message from a loved one in spirit you can ask them to enter your dreams.

Another helpful dreamwork practice is to remember your dreams and interpret them. In our dreams, our subconscious mind and conscious mind can work with our higher self and our spiritual guides to send us the signs and symbols we need to see.

Sometimes the symbols of our dreams are universal. This means that we all dream of similar things. Some of the symbols of our dreams are unique to individuals, and deeply personal.

This is why dream interpretation must move beyond simply looking up universal symbols in a book.

The language of dreams is vast, and the wisdom that can be found in our dreams is significant.

The process of dream interpretation can be psychological, intuitive, or divinatory. We each must find a way to decipher the language of our dreams to find the wisdom our dreams may hold for us.

Tarot and Dreams

There are a few ways you can incorporate tarot into your dreamwork. One of the most interesting ways is to sleep with your deck in its pouch under your pillow for a few nights. The cards will influence your dreams!

Of course, there are many techniques for using tarot to interpret dreams.

Sometimes specific cards in tarot readings will tell us to pay attention to our dreams. A few of these cards are the Moon, the High Priestess, the Nine of Swords, and the Seven of Cups.

Occasionally you might dream of a tarot card. When that happens you can consider why that card was shown to you in your dream, and what it means to you.

The Week in Review

This week on my YouTube channel I taught a class about using tarot as a tool of self-care. We also had our monthly Global Tarot Circle. You can follow the links to watch the replays.

A couple of years ago I wrote a blogpost about interpreting dreams with a custom tarot spread.

When I was last in the Tampa Bay Area, I visited with Ani Crane, the Silver Fox.

From Around the Web

Our community was saddened this week to learn of the passing of David Victor. You can watch one of his tarot plays, “It’s in the Cards”, on the StaarCast YouTube channel.

Here is a dream interpretation tarot spread from Ethony.

Here are some thoughts on dreams from verywellmind.com.

Guidance on the Journey

A dream journal, or a simple notebook and pen on your bedside table, can be the best tool for dreamwork.

Before you go to sleep write down your intention to remember your dreams.

If you need guidance on a specific issue, write your question. This way, your dreams become a type of divination.

If you want to hear from someone in spirit, write a note to them.

When you awaken, write down everything you can remember about your dreams. Do not worry if they make sense while you are writing them down. Do try to write down every detail, including  colors, feelings, and environment.

Later, come back to what you have written and try to find the wisdom in your dreams.

Once in a Blue Moon

July 31st is a rare blue moon. Tarot Topics will help you harness it’s power!

This Friday, July 31, we will experience a rare blue moon. That is, a second full moon in a single month. This is a special time of power.

This week, think about the wonderful things you rarely do, and celebrate the blue moon by doing something unusual, unique or rare in your own life.

Is there something you have been wanting to do, but haven’t found the motivation to do it? The blue moon asks the question, “If not now, when?”

This week, let the powerful energy of the blue moon bring rare opportunities and motivation to you!

The Power of Dreams

Often special events in the night sky can lead to special dreams. This week, pay attention to your dreams, and to your intuitive thoughts.

Even if your dreams and visions don’t make sense, take the time to write them down. As you contemplate the symbols you receive, you may be able to make some sense of them.

You can also use this time of power to ask for a special dream, perhaps a dream that gives you a solution or some insight. Simply set your intention before going to sleep, and make sure to write down every detail you remember in the morning.

Take advantage of the blue moon and receive some helpful guidance in your dreams!

The Week in Review

This week, on my Community Blog, I shared a letter from Jake, a professional tarot reader who discovered that tarot really made a difference in his life. Read “Tarot Really Works.”

As an outgrowth of our program last Sunday at the Tampa Bay Area Tarot Meetup, I posted some information on my personal blog about interpreting Court Cards.

From Around the Web

So many folks have been sharing information about Frida’s blue moon!

Here’s the Shamanic Astrology perspective on the upcoming blue moon.

Elephant Journal shared two articles about this sacred event.  This, from Alex Myles, and this, from Kate Rose.

The Power of Being Unique

In a world where there is a lot of pressure to conform, it can be difficult to be a person who does unusual things.

It’s important for us to find the power in our unique qualities.  Tarot can help us do that.

Try shuffling your deck and asking this question.

What is something special and unique about me?

Pull a card, and interpret it to help you understand a part of yourself that is unique, and powerful.

What’s up at the Psychic Café?

You can now see my interview with Michael Bridge-Dickson on YouTube.  We had a wonderful conversation about his new tarot deck, now in funding.

Orbifold Tarot is unique in many ways. Working simply with colors, shapes, numbers and elements, this new deck is surprisingly expressive and versatile.

You’ll be amazed at the things you learn about tarot, the Universe and everything from Michael Bridge-Dickson.

Learning Lenormand

Card Thirteen: Child

Card Thirteen, Child, can refer to an actual child. Related to the playing card Jack of Hearts, this card can often refer to a person who is close to the querent’s heart.

Sometimes the Lenormand Child can refer to something new, or to a youthful attitude. Typically, this is considered a positive card. Whether referring to a young person, a situation or an attitude, the mood is light-hearted, playful and full of wonder.

Next week we will explore Card Fourteen, Fox.

What’s happening at Florida TarotCon?

TarotCon is coming to Florida October 10th and 11th, to the Doubletree Hotel in Palm beach Gardens. If you reserve your seat before August 9th, you will save $50 on your tuition.

Expect workshops from Ciro Marchetti, Marcus Katz and Tali Goodwin, Corrine Kenner, Lisa Hunt, Jenna Matlin, Gina Theis, Christiana Gaudet and more!

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the Page of Cups.

This week, pay attention to your feelings, and be considerate of the feelings of others. Work on learning new ways to express your feelings, and to share your heart.

If you care about someone or something, now is the time to share that information with others.

Mary Canane and Susan Morgan on the Psychic Cafe

Susan.jpg

Show date:

Sunday, February 23rd, 2014 at 9:00pm EST

On February 23rd our topic on the Psychic Cafe was "Emotional Healing." I wanted to present some alternatives to traditional psychotherapy that were medically sound and spiritually based. My guests were Mary Canane, LMHC, and Susan Morgan of the Mystic Dream Center.

In addition to traditional psychotherapy, Mary Canane provides healing opportunities with games, ritual and retreats in nature.

Susan Morgan practices shamanic dreamwork for groups and individuals.

The insights and opportunities offered by these two healers were expansive and inspirational.

Remembering the Dream

We will always honor the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. as a civil rights leader who worked to usher the United States into a new era. As a minister, a community leader and a civil rights leader he taught us many important lessons.

Martin Luther King, Jr. taught us the value of standing firm in our convictions. He taught us to stand up against hatred. Although he died a violent death he never wavered from his personal doctrine of non-violence.

In his famous "I Have a Dream" speech King set forth a simple concept; that people should be judged by their character rather than their race. I think that is a dream that most of us still value and still work to achieve.

In that speech King also taught us each to dream of a better future for ourselves, our country and our planet.

What is your dream for the future?

The Power of Dreams

Our sleeping dreams can mean a number of things. Sometimes our sleeping dreams are simply our brains randomly processing the events of the day. Sometimes our dreams offer us an opportunity to work out our problems. Sometimes our dreams may be prophetic. Sometimes our spirit guides, ancestors and loved ones in spirit speak to us in our dreams.

The key is in knowing which is which. Which dreams are symbolic and revealing of our issues? Which dreams are sent by Spirit? Which ones remind us not to eat pizza before bed?

It is always wise to perform a divination around the significance of a dream. Using cards, runes or a pendulum ask if the dream is significant and worthy of interpretation.

If there are items or situations in the dream that seem significant you can use divination to discover what these dream elements represent. For instance, you might ask "What is the significance of the toaster?"

Recurrent dreams almost always speak to us of deep ongoing issues. If we can interpret these often-disturbing dreams we can find healing for our issues and stop the dreams.

When we have a problem to solve we can practice lucid dreaming. Simply tell yourself and your spirit guides what you need to learn or solve in your dreams. Do this in a meditation right before sleep. When you awaken write down your dreams even if they don't seem significant. Through the process of interpretation you will often find your answers.

Often our prophetic dreams show us mundane scenes from our own future. We remember the dream when we have a feeling of déjà vu. I interpret these dreams as an indication of being on the correct path.

Do not be afraid when you are visited by Spirit in your dreams. Consider the message you receive in these dreams as proof of Spirit's presence in your life.

Being aware of your dreams will help you heal from your traumas and plan for your future. Your dreams will inspire you and guide you. A bit of lavender scent on your pillow may offer pleasant dreams and clarity in your interpretations.

Christiana's Psychic Café

Last week at the Café we had comedian Alicia Dattner in the Artist's Corner. Alicia is promoting her on-line Spiritual Comedy Festival. It sounds like a great event!

Christiana instituted a new show segment with Marketplace Moment - a moment to feature our local artists and crafters.

There was a discussion about spiritual fiction, a tarot Q & A and a tarot lesson on the Suit of Swords. If you missed the show you can watch it in archive on the Tarot Topics News website.

This Sunday, January 20th, we will have two special guests on the show. Artist Marcy Currier will show us a sneak peek of a tarot deck still in the development stage. Marcy is designing Mystical Frog Tarot which will be published by US Games when it is completed.

In our Magick and Mayhem segment we will have a visit with Tantric Healer Lourdes Starshower. She will explain the concept of tantric healing and tell us about the work she does. You will have the opportunity to call in with your questions.

Tune in to watch this exciting show, Christiana's Psychic Café, this Sunday at 9 pm Eastern on the Paraencounters Network.

Your Dream for the Future

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. here is a one-card exercise derived from the "I have a Dream" speech. You can perform this exercise with tarot or with other oracle cards.

Simply shuffle and ask this question. "What is my dream for the future of the planet?"

Pull just one card at random. How does this card reflect the future of which you dream?

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card reading for the week is the Eight of Pentacles.

Interpretively there tends to be some controversy about this card. We all agree that this is a card of working. Some of us feel this card indicates training or study, especially in a trade. One of my key phrases for this card is "learning through hard work." For me this is the card of hands-on learning and investing time in building a skill.

For others this can be the card of the master craftsman. In this case the Eight of Pentacles suggests a successful career; perhaps a career working with one's hands.

Some tarotists see this as the card of repetitive labor. For them this card could indicate a factory job.

In any case the Eight of Pentacles indicates gainful employment and working with one's hands. I see it as an encouragement to learn a skill or a trade and an indication that one will be able to provide for one's own needs.

This card can encourage education and career development and assure you of the financial security that comes from hard work.
