Be Pre-Prayered!

This past Saturday, during Your Saturday Psychic Sampler, a misspeak led to something inspiring. I wanted to tell someone they needed to be prepared, but I accidentally put an additional ‘r’ sound in there, so it sounded like ‘pre-prayered’. As soon as I heard myself say it, I drew attention because it makes so much spiritual sense. Now I am claiming the word ‘pre-prayered’ as part of my vocabulary.

Praying before an event is not unusual. When I was growing up, we said grace at our family dinner table. At my Christian high school, we prayed before tests. The teachers clearly said we were not praying to pass the test but to remember what we had studied. That distinction was important to me then and remains important in my understanding of how we are co-creators with spirit.

Prayer is not an Amazon order list or a wish list for Santa. Prayer helps us gather our energy and our wits. When we face a challenge, prayer can be part of our preparation. However, we cannot count on prayer to create the desired outcome. My mother used to say that God answers all prayers, but sometimes, the answer is no.

Some would say that if our prayers are not answered, it is because a Higher Power has found us lacking. This is a gross misunderstanding of how spirit works.

We cannot count on prayer to give us our desired outcome, but we can count on prayer to help us show up the best way possible and to provide us with focus and support. When we take a moment to involve spirit in our tasks, we create an environment that nurtures the best possible outcomes and sustains us in misfortune.

Every religion and school of spiritual thought has some mechanism for invoking spirit and making petition. This may be because the practice of prayer is so universally beneficial.

StaarCon 5 ticketholders are invited to join me, Christiana Gaudet, this Thursday, April 24, at 6 pm, for a Tarot Card Combination Workshop in the Meeting Hall Lounge on Accelevents.

We are excited that, beginning in May, Frank Kwiatkowski will host monthly sessions on the first Tuesday of each month! Frank’s sessions will be called Frank’s Rock-and-Roll Tarot Lounge. Here is the description – please make your plan to attend!

Are you ready to combine your love for tarot with your passion for ROCK?? Then join us for this fun tarot-themed listening party, where host and DJ Frank K. will spin iconic rock songs from different eras. We'll have a lively discussion identifying the tarot card that best correlates to each song.

Make sure to bring a deck and an air guitar! You'll discover how combining tarot with rock music breathes new life into your favorite tunes and expands your appreciation of tarot. All are welcome!

We will add new sessions each month, in addition to our regular sessions with Asia Taylor, Serena Fox, Katrina Wynne, and others.

More than an annual event, StaarCon is an ongoing community.

How Do You Prepare for a Tarot Reading?

Most of us have a formal protocol for energetically preparing to read tarot. I believe the reading begins the minute you start your preparation process. Without that preparation, the reading will suffer.

Everyone had their own protocol for doing this, depending on their spiritual beliefs and practices. There is no one correct way; the only incorrect way is not to have a practice for spiritually preparing for the session.

No matter how you prepare, you must include a few things. You must designate the area in which you are working as sacred. You must ground yourself, connect to your higher energy, and invite in whatever spiritual guides you believe work with you. You must put your personal issues, attachments, and concerns aside. You must evoke your sense of clarity, intuition, and your ability to communicate well.

Beyond that, many readers have specific prayers they say to begin their reading. Those prayers reflect individual beliefs about spirit and the tarot reading process.

Our approach to tarot is individual and personal. No two readers do things the same way. Yet, most of us could agree that the more energy we put into our preparations, the more accurate the reading will likely be.

Communities

When I was growing up, my family believed that having a ‘home church’ was essential to having a good community. As an adult, I still find benefit in having a group of people with whom to share spiritual practice, whether a formal church, a Reiki share, or a tarot meetup.

There are even groups of psychics who volunteer their time to help find missing people! Prayer circles, covens, and spiritual study groups can offer support and friendship. It feels good to be with like-minded people. Yet, there are other, more mystical benefits.

Many of us would agree that when we are working to heal, manifest, and find peace and understanding, the combined energies of a group can bring more power and, therefore, greater results to all the participants.
